If you have a smaller backyard or just one rabbit, a compact run can provide enough space for safe outdoor play. When your rabbit also enjoys daily supervised exercise, a small run is ideal for part-time use. Our Villa Run is a great example. It’s compact yet practical, featuring an opening roof that makes it easy for children to sit inside and interact with their bunny.

Large Rabbit Runs

If you have multiple rabbits or a spacious backyard, a large run is the perfect way to give your pets plenty of room to hop, explore and exercise. Safe Timber

At Somerzby, your rabbit’s safety is our top priority. All our runs are made from Chinese fir wood coated with a non-toxic, water-based stain, ensuring it’s completely safe for your bunnies to nibble. We never use treated timber or harmful paints.

Do rabbit runs need a roof?

Yes, a roof is essential for any rabbit run to keep your bunny safe and secure. Rabbits are excellent jumpers, and even under supervision, an open-top playpen could allow your pet to escape, putting them at risk of getting lost or injured. Choosing a run with a sturdy wire mesh roof ensures your rabbit can enjoy outdoor time safely while giving you peace of mind.

How big should a rabbit run be?

The size of a rabbit run depends on how much time your rabbit spends inside. If your rabbit is let out to a bigger yard daily for exercise, a smaller hutch run of around 180 cm long (about 3 hops) and 50 cm high is enough. If your rabbit spends most of its time in the run, choose at least 300 cm long (about 6 hops) and 80 cm high (to give them space to jump).

Does a rabbit run need to be on grass?

Grass is a great option because it’s soft on your rabbit’s feet, absorbs mess and gives them something to nibble. However, a rabbit run can be placed on any flat surface. Avoid uneven ground, as gaps underneath could allow your rabbit to squeeze out and escape.
