Elevated Dog Beds

Raised dog beds are ideal for outdoor use, as the airflow underneath helps keep your dog cooler in summer and drier when it rains. Being lifted off the ground can also be easier on dogs with joint issues, as they don’t need to bend as low and won’t feel the hard surface beneath the bed. Can dog beds be washed?

Some Somerzby dog beds are machine washable for easy cleaning. The Calming Dog Bed and Marley Dog Bed can be placed in the washing machine on a gentle cycle (for the Marley, unzip and remove the bolster first). Allow them to dry in the sun. Other Somerzby beds require hand washing to keep them in great condition.

What type of dog beds do dogs like best?

It depends on your dog! Small breeds, anxious dogs or dogs with thin coats often prefer soft beds as they provide extra warmth and a feeling of security.

Big breeds, senior dogs or dogs that overheat easily may prefer a raised bed as they help with temperature control and minimise pressure on their joints.

Why do dogs circle so many times before they lay down?

Turning around multiple times before lying down helps your dog find the most comfortable position. This behaviour is also believed to be instinctual, passed down from their wild ancestors who would circle to flatten grass or foliage and create a comfortable, nest-like spot for resting.

Where is the best place to put a dog bed in the house?

Choose a quiet location that has minimal foot traffic so your dog won’t be disturbed. Avoid placing the bed directly by a window where it may get too hot or drafty.

Many dogs feel more secure when their bed is tucked into a corner, and positioning it near your own bed can help them feel like part of the pack.

Do dogs prefer circle or square beds?

It depends on how your dog sleeps. Dogs that prefer to curl up in a ball usually like round beds, as they fit with their sleeping position. Dogs that like to sleep stretched out prefer rectangular beds as they offer more space to get comfortable.
